Depends where in the world you are???

In Australia truck drivers are in pretty high demand.

It is in high demand.

some people consider it a good job, others don't.

I understand that the people who own their own truck ( the front part, not the trailer) make more money than others.

stay drug free and find the right company. you want most $ per mile and family time

the younger you are the better since you can drive more and have no wife/kids responsiblity

find the right company and own your own truck…then you are your own boss

Well If you dont have a family and like to be alone all the time then truck driving is a good job to have. And they do make good good money. Your just never home hardly. But without truck drivers, this country would be nothing because how else would goods get anywhere?!

Jesse @ 10:26 pm

The demand, pay, and benefits for truck drivers is declining. With high gas prices, many truck drivers/companies are finding it harder to turn a reasonable profit. Eventually, there will be no oil left, and almost all foods and goods will be produced locally.

if you are married, it will suck, because you will have to spend two weeks at a time driving the truck all across america. if you are single, try doing team driving, and youll make lots of money. If you get a local job, they suck, youll be home everyday, but you will have to unload stuff from the truck, and im talking about a 48' trailer full of pallets weighting 2000 pounds each. and you will have to work almost 14 hours a day. It pays good, but it can be a hassle. I am a truck driver too, and i worked three months over the road, and four months local. then i decided that it was not for me.

Don't think of it as your sole career. Think of it as something you can always fall back on if you try other things. There's always a need for truck drivers.

Congrats on getting certified. Yes, there is strong demand.

First off, congratulations on completion of your truck driver certification. I'm sure you will do well. Truck drivers are always needed and in demand. You have options to either work for a good company or start your own truck business. If you start your own business, you can be your own boss. Maybe consider starting a partnership and take turns driving. Someone I know is married to a truck driver and he makes tuns of money. Also, he has his own business, and he and his wife own a beautiful home together and have children. Their life together is very fulfilling. He and his wife have great benefits and go on lovely vacations every year. I think you will be happy as a truck driver. Consider all the people who go to expensive colleges, spent enormous amounts of money and still cannot find work after they graduated and worked so hard to get their degrees. A truck driver is much less likely to be unemployed. Good luck.
