How do I join my new truck to a trucking company?

truck
pepito asked:

All my life I thought that having a truck is profitable, I am planning to buy one soon, but I don't know how to put it to work. First of all I am not a truck driver, neither do I know anything about the business. I think is a good idea to join the truck to a trucking company, but how do I do that?. Also I don't know how profitable it would be. The one I want to buy is a big one.

As an Owner/Op, you have to find a company who contracts O/O's and sign a deal with them. Usually a period of time for a set mileage rate. Some companies don't hire O/O's. JB Hunt hires them, or at least they have a program where they will sell you one of their trucks and part of the sale contract is an OO contract. It shouldn't be too hard to find a company that does this. The ones that do love OOs because they don't have to mess with maintenance.

you need to do all of your homework before investing in a truck. If you are not going to drive then you will have to hire a driver. This is a challenge in itself. You should do some research and call recruiting departments of many companies before you buy a truck. A good message board to check out is the following:
