My husband has CDL (truck driving lisense) yet has not been able to find a co who will hire him because of?
send good thoughts to me asked:
lack of experience. I know he can drive well but has a limited amount of experience. We are open to driving a regular truck or a car. We need to make money & would like to travel. So you have any ideas as to what or where we should be looking for, what kinds of jobs other then tractor trailer driving or what he needs to do to get a tractor trailor company to hire him?

The problem is trucking companies are down about 45% due the current economic conditions.
take any job you can get right now until things improve in 10-15 years
he should try to be team driver and get more experience
the experience is the problem. In these tough times for industry, trucking companies want people who know how to drive and have been driving correctly (not saying your husband has, just saying that it helps, im sure he is a good driver). That way they have smaller expenses, because there are less unusual parts being replaced. The thing is just to wait till the economy gets higher, but until thenjust apply at more and more places until you get a breakthrough. Good luck!
I'd love to tell you they will hire him tomorrow, but the first guy was right. Trucking companies everywhere are cutting down on their staff because of the economy. I saw a thing on the News the other day that a wine company in California has laid off all but one of their mechanics. He moonlights as a trucker.
This is weird that i stumbled upon this q.. My husband lost his job cause the place where he drove for went outta business. He has driven over the road for over 20 years and is seeking employment as well..I dont know where you live but email me maybe they can team up and drive together.Hubby has been all over the US but prefers not to go out west or New York. He knows the ropes. Its a tough business out there but most he has talked to wants him to have Haz mat and be out there for 2 and 3 weeks at a time ..He dont like that for sure.. Good luck.
The teamsters Union might be a good source. Also contacting as many firms as possible I know the market is pretty bad, but hopefully it will improve soon.
