Can I become a truck driver with a bad driving record?
Hardwood asked:
I'm interested in going to truck driving school and getting my CDL but I don't have a good driving record with my regular license. I have a lot of speeding tickets. If I get my CDL would I be able to get a job with my record?

Yes ill say it wil be pretty impossible they are very strict when it comes to stuff like this since most of the time you will be carrying merchandise that cost a lot of money.
probally not
every unlikely
I hope not for the sake of others
probably not, they look at driving record, thats the most important issue when driving a truck. but how knows, J.B. Hunt hires just about anyone lol
your best bet is to check with the DMV
most likey no one will hire you because the insurance rates would cost them more to employ you than someone else who has a good driveing record. I compleated one million accident free miles while driveing a tractor trailer over the road.
You can get your CDL, but you will have a hard time getting a job. Insurance rules the occupation.
Between not having a good driving record and not having any experience your chance of getting a job that requires a CDL is pretty slim. Insurance companies generally charge very high insurance to trucking companies who employ drivers with less than two years commercial experience. I worked for a small trucking company and the insurance agent reviewed the driver safety records twice a year and adjusted the rates accordingly. That insurance company would not insure any driver with less than two years experience.
There's a lot of variables to it. The main one is when was your last ticket? If it was quite a while ago, they will look at that. A lot of companies have a restriction of when your last ticket was and base it from there.
Many larger companies self-insure, so insurance premiums aren't that big of a deal to them, however their trucks and loads are. If you have no at-fault accidents, or drunk driving tickets, you should be okay with a larger company. Schneiders, Swift, JB Hunt, etc are good places to start. They don't have the best reputation in the driving world, but having a year under your belt with no tickets will lead to better jobs.
