There's lots of Military Installations around that area. In particular you've got White Sands Missile Range up the road from there (about 70 miles) and Holloman Air Force Base. Shouldn't be too difficult to find some kind of civilian type work. Not sure of the security credentials. Might try starting with the Office of Personnel Mgmt..

You posted this twice. Check with your UA and get the phone number for the AG's department. They should be able to fax or email you a list of positions. I doubt their will be one for truck driver, but if you are willing to reclass and if your unit commander will release you from your unit, you should be good to go. Many UA's have to go to FT. McCoy for Unit Administrator training.

Edit: Being employed as a civilian is different. Your benefits and pay are better as AGR. You do not get housing or rations and you will probably start as a GS 3-4 which does not pay much.
